Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

Julia, Julia, oceanchild, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering,
In the sun

Julia, Julia, morning moon, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind, Julia

Julia, sleeping sand, silent cloud, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Hum hum hum hum...calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia, Julia, Julia

Information

Just as John was beginning to get to know his mother, Julia, she was knocked down and killed by a speeding policeman that was late for work. This traumatic experience obviously influenced his writing but this is the first time that she is directly refferred to in his songs.
The first two lines of the song are taken from a collection of Proverbs, "Sand and Foam" by Kahlil Gibran. The "ocean child" is thought to be Yoko.
